Change can elicit a range of emotions. It can be scary, overwhelming, or exciting, depending on the situation.

When you're prepared, getting a promotion or settling into your dream city can be thrilling. However, change can be daunting when you're not ready. Experiencing unemployment or a breakup after investing time and energy is challenging and frustrating.

There are certain things that we can control, while others are beyond our control. Change is an inevitable part of life, whether we like it or not, and whether we choose to accept it or not. At some point in our lives, we all face unexpected challenges.

In situations where change occurs, there are a few things that can aid in adapting.

  1. It is important to remember that change is inevitable and to be prepared to adapt when it occurs. Acceptance is the first step in adjusting to change.
  2. Beliefs hinder progress; shedding old beliefs enables adaptability.
  3. Being attentive to small changes can prepare you for big changes. Gradual change is less overwhelming.
  4. Believe that change will have positive outcomes. Maintaining a positive attitude towards change will make it easier to adapt.
  5. New beliefs are necessary for new experiences. Old rules don't apply.
  6. Fear can hinder change, embrace it courageously.
